A sneak peek at a beach side apartment in Dee Why.

Posted on 11 May 2015

I thought I would share a sneak peak of this Beach side unit transformation. Those who are drawn to my interiors have a flair for fun and like me love a tropical coastal feel. Generally when homes are staged for sale they are meant to be a blank canvas so that the potential buyer can imagine their own style in the unit.

Here is a pic of how it looked at open home, our blank canvas to work with.

Now as lovely as this space is the style is definitely not me and I found it over all generic. I did note however the previous owners clever use of the floor plan... ensuring every bit of space was utilised beautifully without over crowding the room.

The first thing I did was look around my clients previous home and see what existing furniture we could use and what we would need to have made or order for the revamp.  Unfortunately a lot of the old furniture was looking tired, some pieces were hand me downs, some were bought super cheap 2nd hand online and others were pieces bought over 5 years ago and not quite my clients style anymore. I wanted a fresh start in this new beach unit.

My client had a 3 month settlement and in that time  I pounded the pavement, going in to every shop we could find, measuring up pieces of furniture. I didn't want anything to look too "package deal kings" style and wanted the unit to feel bright, light and expensive!

My client had this feeling, A feeling of not wanting a standard home a feeling of wanting to surround herself with the things she loves. It was my job to create some interesting Vision boards to get inspired. Obviously scandi tropic was our theme!

I searched high and low for unique pieces which included a beautiful solid Mango wood side table, rattan chairs and I even imported my own Fabric from Hawaii and made tropical ottomans as I do!

Everybody has different ideas of what inspires them and relaxes them. For some people it’s bringing the outside in, the beach, the harbour or nature. Some people want home to feel like somewhere they have traveled.. like a New York loft or a California Bungalow or an Italian Villa!

Some people love recycled wood and beautiful cable knit textured cushions and cashmere throws, Others Like bright pops of colour and inspirational quotes on the wall. I will delve deeper into this in a future post.

I love Tropical myself! In my own home (in case you didn’t know!) Yes I am very lucky my Hubby also loves tropical!

I like to come home from a long day and feel like I have returned to some exotic location I can almost hear the ukulele playing and smell coconut oil!

The end result is a uniquely styled, tropical inspired oasis. Here are some pics.

We kept a lot of the same layout that the previous owners had however we sourced each piece of furniture separately both from local artisans and commercial retailers in fact everything in the above pic is from a completely separate retailer but works together beautifully to create our beachside pad. Because of the limited Space in the unit we had to hand measure every item of furniture we purchased to ensure it fit.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of this Beach side unit. and it has inspired you to make your own home feel more like a space that inspires you.
